At Finesse we understand earthquake prone buildings and over the past five years have experienced first hand the evolution of guidance surrounding the assessment of buildings and what is required to address weaknesses to improve the stability and life safety.
Life safety is paramount to any strengthening works and should be the primary focus of any design. Due to the requirements of the current standards, buildings need to meet minimum percentages of the new building standards (NBS). This can sometimes remove the focus of the risk to building occupants. Understanding evacuation routes and people movements can ensure that these locations are always considered in the design chain.
Technology is constantly evolving as is our understanding of building performance during extreme events. Through the use of innovative new approaches to analysis and modelling as well as incorporating new seismic technology, Finesse can design buildings that are safer and will perform well during a seismic event.
Finesse can also be appointed to carry out peer reviews of third party seismic strengthening schemes, completing a piece of mind check before committing to the significant costs associated with this type of work.
